Where We Work

Two regions, one strategic system. Our work concentrates on the Middle East and the Horn of Africa, and on the maritime corridor that binds their politics, trade, and security together.

Middle East

Primary region

Middle East

From Gulf diversification programmes to the political economy of the Levant and Iraq, our Middle East coverage links energy, capital, and security into a single analytic picture. We maintain continuous monitoring of regulatory change, alliance dynamics, and domestic reform agendas across eight core markets.

  • Saudi Arabia
  • United Arab Emirates
  • Qatar
  • Oman
  • Yemen
  • Jordan
  • Iraq
  • Egypt
Horn of Africa

Primary region

Horn of Africa

The Horn is one of the most consequential and least well-mapped regions in global affairs. We cover state formation and fragility, logistics corridors linking ports to inland markets, cross-border trade, displacement, and the external powers competing for influence along the coastline.

  • Somalia
  • Djibouti
  • Ethiopia
  • Eritrea
  • Sudan

Strategic corridor

Red Sea & Gulf of Aden

The Red Sea and Gulf of Aden form the intersection where Africa, the Arabian Peninsula, and global shipping meet. A significant share of world seaborne trade and energy passes through Bab al-Mandab and the Suez approaches, making the corridor a chokepoint whose disruption is felt in freight rates, insurance markets, and supply chains far beyond the region.

The corridor is also a political space. Port concessions, naval basing, coastal insurgency, and competing external partnerships all shape who controls access and on what terms. We track the corridor as an integrated file — maritime security, port and logistics investment, coastal governance, and the diplomacy surrounding them.
